Comfort and Safety
Lately I have been asked are inflatable boats safe and stable, the answer is yes. Inflatable boats are said to be the safest and most stable boats in the world today with all the new construction methods, technology and the new designs allowing necessary safety systems to be in place. Because of their safety reputation, inflatable boats are now the standard for use by the Coast Guard, military and other agencies because of its speed, maneuverability, and safe stable ride.

When you first think about it, you might wonder if an inflatable boat is as safe as a larger fiberglass or wood boat. The fact is inflatable boats are just as safe as larger boats, and in some cases they are safer. Inflatable boats are more buoyant because of the inflatable collar or tubes. These inflatable sections help spread the buoyancy out over the entire boat. Also, the collars or tubes on an inflatable boat are usually designed with separate chambers. This means that if one chamber becomes deflated, the overall buoyancy will not be noticeably affected.

A concern that some people have when they are considering an inflatable boat over a larger boat for whale watching is the stability of the inflatable. This is a common question of some people, the fact is, the inflatable boat is much more stable than a larger boat. This is a great feature for people who might be a little bit nervous about going out on a inflatable boat. One indication that inflatable boats are safe is that they are preferred by the Coast Guard as offshore rescue vessels. The one reason the Coast Guard prefers these boats is because they are stable and handle better in rough water. Unlike most larger boats, an inflatable boat sits flat on the water and has a low center of gravity, which means they don’t roll like the larger boats and you won't get seasick.

Depoe Bay Whale Watching

Whale Watching Zodiac Style Aboard The Whales Tail

We started the day out with overcast skies that quickly turn into bright sunny skies and 75° temperatures here on the coast. There was absolutely no wind and a very light swell. Whales were sighted anywhere from the Bay to Goverment Point. Tomorrow's weather looks to be much the same as today, so we hope you will join us for some exciting whale watching zodiac style aboard the Whales Tail.

Whale Watching Report For Aug. 25
Although we had foggy conditions for most of the day the Whales Tail was still able to find the whales. Whales were sighted just off Pirates Cove in 40-50 feet of water feeding on mysid shrimp. This was the same whale we saw yesterday that gave everybody a great show and she did it again today. Above are just some of the pictures taken yesterday, I hope to have some video's of this trip soon.

Whale Watching Report For Aug. 24
It was just an absolutely beautiful day here on the coast with 79° temperatures, T-Shirt weather out on the ocean. We had very light winds and sea conditions under bright sunny skies. And to top it off whale watching was fantastic, the whales put on a grand performance for the customers by coming up close to the boat on numerous occasions. The whales really seem to like the boat. Whale Watching Report For Aug. 8
The whales are back. Whales started showing up late this morning feeding in close to shore off Goverment Point and Boiler Bay. Later in the afternoon they moved closer to Depoe Bay, just off North Point and just outside the entrance to the harbor. The weather looks good for tomorrow with light winds and sea conditions. We hope you will join on the Whales Tail for an exciting adventure.

Whale Watching Report For Aug. 7
The day started out foggy and remain that way for most of the day, which did not help us find the whales. We had multiple trips today but no whales were to be seen. There is plenty of food around for them to eat, they just decided to go into hiding. Hopefully they will be back tomorrow. The ocean was beautiful, glassy flat, no wind, swell 2 feet.

Whale Watching Report For Aug. 6
It was another nice day on the ocean with overcast skies all day, but the wind and sea conditions were light, North 5 knots, swell 3 feet. We had multiple whale sightings off Goverment Point and Boiler Bay. The same whales have been feeding there for the past 5 days now. Researchers have reported that there are plenty of mysid shrimp around for the whales to feed on. Tomorrows weather and whale sightings should be good. Come on down and join us on a whale watching trip, zodiac style aboard the Whales Tail.

Whale Watching Tours in Oregon

Watching Whales on the Whales Tail Zodiac Style

Whale Watching Report For Aug. 5
Things have really improved this last week, the ocean conditions have been perfect, little or no wind, and the swell has been 3-4 feet. The whale sightings have greatly improved as we are now seeing multiple whales on our trips and they have been minutes away from the entrance. Tomorrow should be good weather and the whales were still here as of 7pm. Also, these friendly whales really seem to like the boat, or they like looking at the people as they cruise by close to have a closer look. Hope to see you aboard the Whales Tail for some exciting whale watching.

Whale Watching Report For Aug. 4
The day started out in grand fashion as we had great ocean conditions but cloudy skies. The first two whale watching trips were fantastic this morning as Icecap the whale started breaching. He breached on four different occasions and spyhopped three different times, he really is a great performer. The last two trips the fog moved in which made things difficult trying to find the whales.

Whale Watching Report For Aug. 3
It was a perfect day on the ocean, no wind, 4' swell, sunny skies. Now for the best part, the whales are here, some up North towards Goverment Point, and some right out front in the Bay. The whales put on an absolutely great performance showing their tails and coming over to the boat for a closer look at our passengers. If you were thinking about whale watching now is the time, zodiac style aboard the Whales Tail.
